How We're Organized

Idlewild Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbytery of the Mid-South, a governing body of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Idlewild Church is organized according to the denomination’s Book of Order. Men and women are nominated and elected by the congregation to serve three year terms as ordained elders and deacons, and as trustees.

Session
The congregation’s chief governing body is comprised of 36 elected "elders" who represent the members. The Session is moderated by the pastor. There are eighteen Session committees, each moderated by an elder. The Session is responsible for the mission and governance of the church.

Deacons
Given authority for congregational care by the Session, 36 members, and two youth delegates, are elected to three year terms. In addition to congregational care, Deacons are charged with the overview and management of the church’s financial resources, the care and use of the church building and grounds, and with hospitality toward the congregation and guests.

Trustees
Eleven elected members are entrusted with financial planning and management of church facilities.
