Recreation Ministries

Idlewild Recreation is the largest integrated church-community recreation program in the city, nurturing participants from both the church and the community at large. The programs demonstrate the love of Christ through organized recreation by providing positive role models, capable leadership in a Christian environment, safe facilities, and an inclusive spirit. The church’s gym and recreation programs are open to all in the community.

Idlewild baseball program named RBI Site of the Year

Idlewild Church was named 2008 RBI Site of the Year. This award is presented annually by the Memphis Redbirds, which oversees the Renew Baseball to the Inner-City (RBI) programs, to one of the 16 sites that exemplifies what the model RBI site should look like.

The award to Idlewild is in recognition of the great work and care our coaches demonstrated throughout the summer. It also is for the almost 200 children that participated — they showed great team spirit, sportsmanship, and positive attitudes that set them apart from other programs. Many thanks to the whole Idlewild family for the volunteers, support and prayers during this very, very successful summer.

RBI 2009 begins June 8

Another wonderful season of RBI (Renew Baseball to the Inner-City) begins June 8, 2009. Games and practices are held at the UT Doctor Fields (off Union). For more information or to to volunteer to coach, or to pick up or distribute lunches, please contact Ashley LaRue at 725-4165.
