Summer Sunday School begins May 26, 2019
 


Ongoing Registrations

Registration for the fall NaCoMe All-Church Camp is now open! NaCoMe October 11-13 in Pleasantville, Tenn. Come for a weekend of fun and fellowship away from the distractions of daily life. There’s something for folks of all ages and stages. Payment plan options are available. Register in Realm Events.

Fall soccer registration is open until July 26 or teams are full. Sign up soon to secure a spot. Birthday cut-off is June 1, 2019. Be sure to sign up for your child’s correct age group: Mini-Strikers (ages 4-5), Under 8 (ages 6-7), Under 10 (ages 8-9), and Under 13 (10 to 12). Register in Realm Events or visit www.idlewildchurch.org/registrations.

 

Summer Classes 

Summer Sunday school began May 26. Classes are at 9:40 a.m. See the Christian Formation summer brochure for details about classes, music, recreation and special events.

Adult Summer Speaker Series: Meet in the T.K. Young Room. See all speakers and topics for each week.  

Children's classes: PK–1st grade (Room 128) and 2nd–5th grade (Room 121). Two-year-olds will not meet. Remember, children remain in their current grade until Rally Day.

Youth classes meet in the new youth area in the Jones Building, 3rd floor east wing.

The Summer Choir meets Sunday mornings at 10:00 to prepare for that day's 11:00 service. Contact Barry Oliver.

 

Each Thursday - Theology on Tap for Young Adults

Theology on Tap meets Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. It is usually at Pyro's Pizza on Union, but location may vary, so be sure to check the weekly YA email or the bulletin. If you want to sign up for emails, contact Elizabeth H. Doolin.  Idlewild young adults gather weekly through the summer to discuss a current topic and its implications for our faith and theology, while enjoying food and beverages. 

 

June 16 - YA 3rd Sunday Lunch

Young Adults have Third Sunday Lunch Jun1 at Memphis Pizza Cafe in Overton Square after the 11:00 service. All young adults are welcome!

 

June 22 - Family Fellowship Gatherings

SK-5th grade families: Pool party 2:00-4:30 Saturday, June 22. Hosted by David and Erin Simpson (2329 Hickory Forest Dr., 38119). Check your inbox for an invitation and RSVP by June 16.

Fellowship for young families (JK/age 4 and younger): Saturday, June 22, 5:00-6:30. Hosted by Mary and Jim Hopkins (4137 Long Leaf Dr., 38117). Older siblings welcome. Check your inbox for an invitation and RSVP by June 16.

 

June 21, July 19, Aug 16 - Parents Night Out

Four Parents Night Out events are being offered by the EEC this summer. Each night will have a fun theme and will include dinner. Ages: 5 to 12: Times: 6:00-9:00 p.m. Space is limited. Cost is $25 each for 2 children; a 3rd child in a family is $10. Dates: June 7, onsite escape room; June 21, art expressions; July 19, slime time; and Aug 16, Olympics. June 23 - Suzanne Henley, guest speaker

Prayer Beads: Join Suzanne Henley in exploring the rich, 4,000 year history of prayer beads and their increasing use by Presbyterians and other Protestant denominations. Suzanne Henley works with fused glass and designs jewelry and prayer beads. Her book, Bead by Bead: The Ancient Way of Praying Made New, was published in March 2018. The Summer Speaker Series is at 9:40 a.m. Sundays in the T.K. Young Room. See upcoming speakers.

 

July 13, August 10 - Guided labyrinth

Guided labyrinth exercises will be held 9:00–10:00 a.m. Saturdays, June 8, July 13 and August 10, led by Anne Bradley Thomas at Rhodes College. Park on University Street and walk through the Phillips Lane school entrance. The Adrienne McMillan Burns Memorial Labyrinth is located southwest of the Fisher Garden near the school entrance.
