Sat Sept 22 – Young Families Fellowship Pool Party

Fellowship for young families (at least one child JK or under, four years or younger) pool party is 2:00-5:00 Saturday, Sept. 22. Hosted by Leigh-Taylor White and Macky Futhey (805 S. Perkins 38117). Be sure to bring your swimsuit and a towel. RSVP with Caitlin one week in advance.

Sun Sept 23 - Church Potluck

After the 11:00 worship service. Bring your favorite salad, side dish or dessert to accompany Miss Faye’s famous fried chicken. You can sign up at church the two Sundays before.

Sun Sept 23 - Glorious Gourd ArtShow

Decorated gourds created by teens who work in our McMerton Gardens in Binghampton will be featured in the Glorious Gourd ArtShow, 2:00-4:00 Sunday, Sept. 23 at Memphis Botanic Garden. The young gardeners will be on hand to demonstrate their techniques and discuss their gardening experiences. The show is free.

Sun Sept 23 – SK-5th Graders Family Fellowship Pool Party

Fellowship for SK-5th grade families pool party (younger and older siblings welcome) is 4:00-6:00 Sunday, Sept. 23. Hosted by Frances and Jake Lawhead (1592 Central Ave. 38104). Be sure to bring your swimsuit and a towel. RSVP with Caitlin one week in advance.

Thurs Sept 27 – Book Club

The Thursday morning book club is reading In the Kingdom of Ice by Hampton Sides. The next meeting is 2:00 p.m. September 27 in the parlor. All are welcome.

Sat Sept 29 - Mid-South Pride Fest 

Idleiwld's Gay-Straight Fellowship will have a tent at the Mid-South Pride Fest and Parade Saturday, September 29 at Tom Lee Park. The festival is 10:00-5:00, with the parade at 1:00. Everyone is invited! Stop by the tent. Offer hugs from moms, dads, allies and supporters (inspired by the Free Mom Hugs campaign). Make signs and posters and march in the parade with the Presbytery-wide group. Contact Chad Braddock at or 901-907-9757 with any questions. Don’t forget to wear your Idlewild T-shirts!

Sun Sept 30 - Called Congregational Meeting

A congregational meeting has been called for Sunday, September 30, 2018 following the 11:00 service. The Nominations Committee will present the names for election to the Session and Diaconate, Class of 2021.

Sun Sept 30 –Report on the General Assembly

Associate Pastor Anne H. K. Apple will give a report on the General Assembly at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 in the T.K. Young Room. Anne served as a Commissioner from the Presbytery of the Mid-South to the 2018 PC(USA) General Assembly in June.

Sun Sept 30 - Blood Drive

Lifeblood’s blood mobile will be in the parking lot Sunday, September 30, from 8:00 to 11:00. You are encouraged to “give back” to our community in this most vital way. Sign up in the hallway at church Sunday or email Julie Markham at for an appointment. “Now you are the body of Christ” (1 Cor. 12:27).

Sat Oct 20 - Midtown Civil Legal Clinic

Volunteers are needed, especially attorneys and paralegals. The clinic is 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Free & open to the public. See details

Sun Oct 21 – MICAH public meeting

The Memphis Interfaith Coalition for Action and Hope (MICAH) will hold their first public meeting Sunday, Oct. 21 at Mason Temple (930 Mason St.) from 4:30 to 6:00. The three MICAH task forces—Education Reform, Economic Equity, and Immigration and Intercultural Equity—will present their issues to our public officials and formally request their support. Many Idlewilders have been working on these task forces over the summer, and we have 60 people already committed to be attendance. A carpool will leave from the church parking lot at 3:45 to go to the meeting. Please consider attending.

Nov 2-4 - Young Adult Women’s retreat

The fall YAW retreat is November 2–4 at Pickwick Lake. See more info and register online at

Oct 12-14 – NaCoMe All-Church Camp

NaCoMe is fully booked. If you are already signed up and are willing to share space in your cabin, please contact Shari Gross so a few more people on the waiting list can attend. NaCoMe is October 12–14. Payment is due by Sept. 30.
