The Reverend Dr. Gayle Walker
Gayle is our Associate Pastor for Adult Ministry.
She joined Idlewild's pastoral team in 2002. Prior to serving here, Gayle was the Associate Dean of Students at Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education. She also has served as a pastor at First Presbyterian in Charleston, West Virginia, where she directed the Christian education ministry.
Gayle's doctoral work was at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where her project focused on one of her passions, spiritual formation. Gayle continues to bolster our traditional adult education program while seeking ways to introduce more contemplative practices into the life of our church.
You can also find her working on with our Living Waters for the World project, orchestrating teams that install clean water systems (and teach about their upkeep and use) in Mexico and Ghana.
On March 1, 2011, Gayle married David Marshall. It was a small wedding, but they plan to have a large ceremony in the fall and celebrate with the whole church family. We are very glad to have David here in Memphis and as a part of our church!
