Idlewild Presbyterian Church offers three programs through the Children’s Center:
- Day Care (12 months through 4 years)
- After School Care (kindergarten through 7th grade at Campus School, Idlewild Elementary, and Snowden Elementary)
- Summer Camp (ascending kindergarten through 7th grade)
Day Care
There are age-appropriate full day programs for children from 12 months through four years. Open Monday through Friday 6:45 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Call 725-7941 for registration and tuition information.
The full day care program uses a center-based curriculum. The staff takes a team approach to planning for each child’s day, seeking to provide a warm, loving environment and welcoming the parents to work in partnership to meet the individual needs of each family.
After School Program
After School Program is for children in kindergarten through 7th grade who attend the following schools: Idlewild, Campus School, and Snowden. A full day summer camp is offered to school-agers each summer (see below).
The Center’s program for school age children provides transportation from school to the Center each day. Upon arriving at the Center, the children are served a nutritious snack, then choose between a homework room or choice based activity room. There are also gymnasium and outside play opportunities.
On days that schools are closed and the Children’s Center is open, we provide all-day or partial-day care at no additional fee for school-age children enrolled in our program. When school is closed for an entire week, full-day care is available at $75 for the week.
2011 Summer Camp
Summer Camp for children ascending kindergarten through 7th grade is a full-day program filled with child-friendly activities including field trips, swimming opportunities, and a variety of camper-directed projects.
Children in Pathways I (ascending kindergarten) and Pathways II (ascending 1st grade) will not have field trips. They will have extracurricular activities such as Spanish lessons, gymnastics, magic shows, petting farm animals, and water play.
Older campers enjoy community service projects in addition to other activities. We serve nutritious lunch and snacks and promote physical well-being through outside play and organized sports. Our staff works closely with parents to meet the needs of each family.
Full day program offers a variety of age appropriate activities: swimming and water play (age appropriate), arts & crafts, pottery, cooking, academic enrichment projects, field trips and community service.

Weekday Kindergarten
Cheryl Ward
Director of the Idlewild Weekday Kindergarten

Idlewild’s weekday kindergarten is planned to give each child new and broad opportunities to experience the joy and love of learning in a safe, secure, caring and positive environment. All children are unique and respected for their own worth, accepted and loved as they are. A growing respect for oneself makes it possible for one to respect others, their rights and property. A child will experience the joy of learning through…
- Discovering the ability to think for him/herself
- Developing manipulative skills and good work habits
- Learning to listen and follow directions
- Learning to give and take, and assume responsibility in a group
- Growing in understanding of God’s love and being willing to respond to his love
